VCC's own accompanist and internationally known concert pianist, Daniel Glover, will share his masterful talent at the piano in this annual benefit concert for the chorale. The concert will feature works by Liszt commemorating the 200th anniversary of his birth. Additionally, Mr. Glover will play Schumann's First Piano Sonata, Bartok's Suite, and works by the lesser-known Russian composer Sergei Liapunov, written in the style of Liszt, one of which will be his stirring Elegy in Memory of Liszt. Tickets for this event may be purchased for $25 in advance or at the door. Click here to learn more about ordering tickets.
We will be joined by singers from the Ohlone Chamber Singers and the San Francisco Concert Chorale for this memorial to the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. The concert will feature Arthur Honegger's Le Roi David (King David), which was composed in 1921 as incidental music for Rene Morax's play by the same name. The work established Honegger's reputation as a composer. Two years later he added Morax's libretto to create the symphonic psalm that you will hear in our performance. The work features an orchestra and soloists as well as a narrator, who will help tell the story of King David's life. The concert will also feature Herbert Howell's Requiem, which was composed in 1936. This work will be unaccompanied. Click here to learn about ordering tickets for each concert.
This concert will feature delicious selections about food and love. One of the pieces, Marge, you make the best Pork Chops, was written by Bay Area composer Paul Crabtree. Listen carefully. We will also perform John Rutter's Banquet Fugue, Bob Chilcott's Fragments From His Dish, Paul Carey's Play with your Food!, two pieces of music based on Shakespeare's poem If Music be the Food of Love, and many other pieces. There will be a reception after the concert featuring food prepared by our master chefs! Click here to learn about ordering tickets, which will cost $20 ($25 at the door).
This concert features guest artist Anders Paulsson, a Swedish Saxophonist. He is noted for the sensitivity of his interpretations that incorporate a rich jazz flavor. He has performed as a soloist in 20 countries and has made over 13 CDs. One reviewer says that his music is both stimulating and makes you feel good! We think you will agree. As a composer he is well-known for his arrangements of Deep River, Bright Morning Star, and Amazing Grace.
